Most pennies go overlooked - dropped in jars and forgotten. The Six Million Penny Project reveals the power of pennies to do a world of good. We have no way to alter the past or return the Six Million to a worldly existence. But we can honor and elevate their memories by transforming the humble and plentiful penny into charity, as a merit to their eternal souls. It is simple to participate without mailing weighty bags of coins. You can take part in this most innovative Holocaust awareness project by mailing in your contribution and having our student volunteers convert your donation into pennies.
Children in Denver’s elementary and high schools will play a significant role in the penny drive, as their understanding of the impact of the Holocaust grows with every coin. Penny Project collection jars will be distributed to educators interested in participating in the project. Joining the Penny Project adds a muchneeded human dimension to World War II history units. A culminating ceremony for the Six Million Penny Project will be held for students and the community. At that time, the converted penny collection will be on display in its immense entirety.
Local businesses are encouraged to become corporate sponsors of the Six Million Penny Project. As a Denver-wide program, the project will generate significant visibility and good will. Corporate sponsors will be named in project publicity materials and at the counting ceremony.
Our greatest tribute to the past is to celebrate our Jewish future. Bais Menachem, under the spiritual guidance of Rabbi Yisroel Engel, has chosen to transform the immense penny collection into a living monument by dedicating the funds collected to the writing of a new Torah scroll in memory of the Six Million. This magnificent scroll will serve as a constant reminder of our history and our commitment to those who have gone before us. |
